5mm Loose Lay LVT
0.55mm Wear Layer
Factory Direct

5mm Loose Lay LVT uses a heavy fibreglass reinforcement layer and specialised friction backing to remain stable without adhesive — no glue, no click system, no screed preparation. Furthermore, the 0.55mm wear layer achieves EN 685 Class 33/42 — making this the highest-performing removable floor covering available. Wear Layer — 0.55mm · EN 685 Class 33/42
Transparent PVC film — the sole determinant of EN 685 class and commercial service life. 0.55mm (22 mil) achieves Class 33 for general commercial and Class 42 for heavy commercial environments. This is the standard wear layer for Loose Lay specified in EU commercial office, retail, and raised access floor applications.

Décor Film
High-resolution EIR (Embossed-in-Register) print — décor pattern aligned to embossing die within ±0.1mm. Same décor batches available as SPC Click and Dryback LVT for Universal Colour Matching across installation systems on mixed-system projects.

LVT Core + Dual Fibreglass Reinforcement
This is what separates Loose Lay from all other LVT systems. A flexible PVC core is laminated with dual fibreglass reinforcement layers — one above and one below the core. The fibreglass constrains thermal expansion and contraction, achieving dimensional stability ≤0.10% (EN ISO 23999) without adhesive bond to the subfloor. Without fibreglass, a floating PVC plank would expand and contract freely under temperature change — causing buckling and joint separation. The fibreglass layer makes no-adhesive installation viable for commercial specification.

Friction Backing — the grip system
A specialised high-friction PVC backing material with a micro-textured surface. The friction coefficient is calibrated to resist lateral movement under foot traffic and furniture loads without adhesive — while remaining easy to lift and reposition by hand. This is the backing visible in the LOOSE-LAY-BACKING product photo. The friction backing works with the fibreglass reinforcement to keep the plank flat and in position across the service life of the floor.

When to specify Loose Lay vs alternatives

Loose Lay vs Dryback
vs SPC Click.

Project requirement 5mm Loose Lay Dryback / SPC Click
Raised access floor — cable access required ✓ Lifts in seconds · no adhesive removal Dryback: solvent removal · SPC: disassemble entire floor
Temporary installation — exhibition · showroom ✓ Full floor removable and reusable Dryback: permanent · SPC: semi-permanent click
Fastest installation — no cure time ✓ Immediate re-entry · zero cure time Dryback: 24–48h adhesive cure · SPC: immediate
EN 685 Class 44 — NHS · airport ✗ Loose Lay max Class 42 — adhesive bond required for Class 44 ✓ 3mm Dryback · 0.7mm wear · Class 44
UFH underfloor heating ✓ Compatible · ≤0.10% stability · max 27°C ✓ SPC Click also compatible
Lowest FOB cost US$8.80–9.20/m² · fibreglass premium Dryback from US$3.80/m² · SPC from US$6.18/m²
Subfloor irregularities — minor undulation ✓ Fibreglass absorbs minor undulation better than rigid SPC SPC: rigid — requires flatter subfloor preparation

Dimensional Stability
EN ISO 23999. Achieved through dual fibreglass reinforcement — the same stability level as adhesive-bonded Dryback, without adhesive. This is the technical proof that Loose Lay is viable for commercial specification beyond residential DIY applications.

Class 33/42
EN 685 Utilisation Class
0.55mm wear layer with full-spread fibreglass reinforcement achieves Class 33 (general commercial) and Class 42 (heavy commercial). This is the highest EN 685 class achievable in a no-adhesive floating installation — confirmed on CE Declaration of Performance per shipment.

Slip Resistance
DIN 51130 R10 and EN 13893 DS dual-certified. For wet commercial zones and healthcare environments. The friction backing also provides additional slip resistance at the plank underside — preventing plank migration under foot traffic without adhesive.

Primary applications · Where 5mm Loose Lay LVT is the correct specification
🏢
Raised Access Floor (RAF)
The primary application for Loose Lay in European commercial construction. RAF systems (Kingspan, Knauf, Mero) require flooring that can be lifted quickly for cable and service access without damage to the floor covering or the access panels below. 5mm Loose Lay lifts in seconds — no adhesive residue, no damage to the panel surface, full reuse of the plank after re-laying.
🏨
Hotel Renovation — Zero Room Downtime
For hotel corridor and guestroom renovation where return to service speed is critical, Loose Lay delivers same-day installation and immediate re-entry — no adhesive cure time, no off-gassing period. The 228×1524mm long plank format creates the visual continuity of SPC click without the structural permanence.
🏪
Retail — Removable and Reusable
For retail fit-outs where the tenant does not own the building, Loose Lay is the only commercial-grade flooring system that can be removed at the end of a lease and reinstalled in a new location. The fibreglass reinforcement maintains plank integrity through multiple installations — unlike click LVT which fatigues at the joint after two or three installations.
🎪
Exhibition & Event Spaces
Temporary exhibitions, trade shows, and pop-up retail require professional-grade flooring that installs and removes quickly. Loose Lay achieves Class 33/42 commercial appearance and performance while remaining fully removable — suitable for environments where adhesive installation is prohibited by the venue.
🏫
Education — Renovation Over Existing Floor
For school and university renovation where the existing subfloor cannot be disturbed, Loose Lay installs directly over most existing resilient floor coverings — no strip-out, no adhesive removal, no subfloor preparation beyond levelling. The fibreglass reinforcement bridges minor existing floor surface irregularities.
🔧
Maintenance-Critical Commercial
For data centres, server rooms, laboratories, and healthcare environments where subfloor access is periodically required, Loose Lay is specified as the only floor covering system compatible with frequent planned access. Individual planks lift in under 60 seconds — critical where subfloor access cannot be scheduled 24+ hours in advance.
Container note · 5mm Loose Lay LVT

At 5mm total thickness, Loose Lay LVT weighs approximately 7.2 kg/m² — lighter than SPC Click at the same thickness (approximately 8.8 kg/m²), due to the lower-density LVT core versus the limestone-filled SPC core. Consequently, a 20ft container accommodates approximately 3,200 m² of 5mm Loose Lay. For EU destinations, the 28-tonne road weight limit is not a constraint at this product weight. See our complete container weight analysis at 20ft vs 40ft container guide.
