6mm SPC Click
Flooring Manufacturer
5mm Rigid Core + 1mm IXPE
In Western European renovation markets — particularly the Netherlands, Germany, and the UK — a significant proportion of commercial projects involve existing subfloors with minor irregularities that fall between 5mm SPC’s ≤2mm/2m tolerance and the 3mm+ deviation that requires full screed preparation. Consequently, 6mm SPC fills this gap: it tolerates 2–3mm/2m subfloor deviation without surface telegraphing, without the weight and cost of 7mm, and without the subfloor preparation budget that many renovation projects cannot absorb.

The Numbers Behind the Subfloor Bridge.
Every SPC manufacturer publishes the same parameter list — stability, fire rating, indentation, peel resistance. The 6mm specification shares these values with 5mm and 7mm SPC. What is different about 6mm is not the compliance data but the bridging performance and the project context it enables. Consequently, each parameter below is explained in terms of what it means specifically for EU renovation projects with imperfect subfloors.
| Parameter | Value | Standard & EU Renovation Context |
|---|---|---|
| Total Thickness | 6mm (5+1) | 5mm SPC rigid core + 1mm IXPE pre-attached. No separate underlay required. |
| Core Density | 1.95–2.05 g/cm³ | Limestone-PVC composite — same compound as 5mm and 7mm SPC. Stability is compound-determined, not thickness-determined. |
| Subfloor Bridging | 2–3mm / 2m | Practical field tolerance for minor subfloor irregularities without screed preparation. Covers pre-1990 EU concrete subfloors. |
| Dimensional Stability | ≤ 0.10% | EN ISO 23999 · ASTM F2199 — stable across UFH temperature range 15–28°C and European seasonal delta. |
| Impact Sound | △IIC 21–22 dB | ASTM E2179 — marginally higher than 5mm’s △IIC 21 due to additional plank mass. Pre-attached 1mm IXPE. |
| Peel Resistance | ≥ 50N / 50mm | ISO 24345:2006 — co-extrusion bond, not adhesive. Identical to 5mm and 7mm SPC. |
| Residual Indentation | avg. 0.05mm | ISO 24343-1 — same as 5mm and 7mm. Below visible detection threshold at EU post-renovation inspection. |
| Fire Rating | Bfl-S1 | EN 13501-1 — mandatory NL Bouwbesluit 2012, DE MBO, UK Part B. Standard specification, no supplementary testing required. |
| Slip Resistance | R10 / DS | DIN 51130 · EN 13893 — dual-certified for wet and dry commercial applications. |
| Wear Layer Options | 0.3 / 0.5 / 0.7mm | All EN 660-2 Group T. 0.5mm for EU office and retail; 0.7mm for Class 33/42 heavy commercial. |
| Click System | Uniclic / Välinge 5G | Both available. Välinge 5G for faster renovation install — push-down simultaneous engagement. |
| GREENGUARD Gold | TVOC ≤ 0.22 mg/m³ | UL 2818 — indoor air quality for EU renovation projects in occupied buildings. LEED v4 IEQ credit 4.3. |
| FloorScore | SCS-FS-05154 | CDPH Section 01350 — required for BREEAM-certified EU commercial renovation projects. |
| Weight / m² | ~9–10 kg | 1–2 kg/m² lighter than 7mm — allows approximately 5–8% more sqm per 20ft container vs 7mm. |
| FOB Price Range | US$6.80–7.50/m² | 0.3mm from $6.80 · 0.5mm from $7.10 · 0.7mm from $7.50 — FOB Ningbo or Shanghai. MOQ 800 sqm/SKU. |
Correct for EU residential renovation — rental apartments, social housing common areas, and guest rooms with moderate foot traffic. The 6mm core’s bridging advantage is fully available regardless of wear layer selection — 0.3mm delivers the subfloor tolerance benefit at the lowest FOB cost.
The volume standard for Dutch and German office and boutique retail renovation — providing Class 31/33 commercial lifecycle on top of the 6mm bridging advantage. Furthermore, 0.5mm satisfies most EU commercial building warranty requirements for floor coverings in renovation projects. Specified by NL Woningcorporaties for mixed-use ground floor renovation.
Heavy commercial specification on 6mm core — correct when Class 42 utilisation is required but the renovation scope or door clearance does not permit 7mm SPC. Specifically, chain retail and education renovation projects where high foot traffic demands Class 42 but the building’s older concrete subfloor requires the 6mm bridging tolerance.
12 Decors. All Available in 6mm SPC.
Every colour below is available across 5mm, 6mm, 7mm, and 8mm SPC from the same décor film batch. Consequently, a project specifying 6mm SPC in renovation zones with minor subfloor irregularities can use the same colour as areas with 5mm or 7mm — and all zones will match under equivalent lighting. This is our Universal Colour Matching guarantee.
Three Texture Families. All on 6mm SPC.
Wood grain is the volume specification for EU renovation. Stone and carpet textures extend 6mm SPC into bathrooms, kitchens, and office environments where the bridging advantage applies equally regardless of the surface pattern.
Wood-texture 6mm SPC is the dominant specification for EU office and residential renovation. The EIR process registers the embossed grain to the printed décor within ±0.1mm — the grain you see matches the grain you feel at every knot, ring, and medullary ray. Furthermore, the 6mm core’s bridging advantage means EIR wood grain can be installed directly over older EU concrete subfloors without the flatness preparation that 5mm would require.
Where 6mm SPC Is the Correct Specification.
Three real EU renovation environments where the 6mm bridging advantage is the deciding factor — not aesthetics, but engineering. Each scenario below represents a project where 5mm would be under-tolerance and 7mm would be unnecessarily heavy.
EU Office Renovation · Class 31/33
The most common 6mm specification scenario in the Netherlands and Germany: a commercial office building from the 1970s–1990s with a concrete subfloor that has settled unevenly over decades. Subfloor deviation is typically 2–3mm/2m — within 6mm SPC’s bridging capacity but beyond 5mm’s tolerance. Consequently, 6mm allows the renovation to proceed without grinding or self-levelling screed, saving 3–5 days of preparation time and significant cost.
EU Social Housing · Class 23–31
Dutch Woningcorporaties (housing associations) undertake large-scale renovation of occupied apartment stock — often without moving tenants out. In this context, grinding or screeding the subfloor is not feasible in an occupied apartment. Specifically, 6mm SPC allows renovation teams to install directly over the existing subfloor in one day per apartment, bridging the minor irregularities that accumulate over 30–50 years of building settlement without any preparation work.
EU Boutique Retail · Class 31/33
UK and German high street retail renovation often involves installing new flooring directly over existing ceramic tile or uneven concrete — a scenario where 5mm SPC would telegraph grout lines and tile edges through the surface. The 6mm core bridges these irregularities without any tile removal, reducing renovation time from 2–3 days (strip, screed, dry, install) to a single installation day. Furthermore, the 6mm profile remains within standard retail door clearance without undercutting.
Pattern flooring (Herringbone and Chevron) uses shorter planks than straight-lay — typically 6″×24″ or 9″×24″. Shorter planks are more sensitive to subfloor irregularities because the deviation-to-plank-length ratio is higher. Consequently, a 2mm subfloor depression that is invisible under a 72″ straight plank may be visible under a 24″ Herringbone plank. The 6mm core’s improved bridging capacity makes it the preferred specification for pattern flooring in EU renovation — the same bridging advantage that helps with straight-lay is amplified in pattern applications.
Is 6mm the Right Thickness for Your Project?
6mm SPC occupies a specific engineering position — it is the correct specification when subfloor flatness falls between 5mm’s ≤2mm/2m tolerance and the 3mm+ deviation that requires full screed preparation. If your subfloor is flat to ≤2mm, 5mm delivers identical performance at lower cost. If your subfloor exceeds 3mm deviation, no SPC thickness bridges it — subfloor preparation is required. Specifically, 6mm is the specification that eliminates screed preparation on minor subfloor irregularities in EU renovation projects.
Correct specification when subfloor is flat to ≤2mm/2m. Same ≤0.10% stability as 6mm — at lower weight and lower FOB cost. The lightest and most logistics-efficient SPC specification.
Correct specification when subfloor deviation falls between 2–3mm/2m — beyond 5mm tolerance but within 6mm bridging capacity. Eliminates screed preparation on pre-1990 EU concrete subfloors. The EU renovation standard for NL, DE, and UK projects.
EU heavy commercial standard. Class 42/43 utilisation. Maximum bridging capacity at ≤3mm/2m. Default specification for NL social housing (Woningcorporaties) and DE commercial projects where heavy foot traffic requires Class 42/43.
Maximum click SPC specification. Class 43. Highest bridging capacity and point-load resistance. Specified for Middle East hospitality, large-format retail, and heavy commercial environments where subfloor preparation is limited.
