UK housing association programmes specify flooring under the Decent Homes Standard — with Bfl-s1 fire classification for common areas and corridors, and a commercial utilisation class for LVT. 2.5mm Dryback LVT with 0.55mm wear satisfies both at a lower FOB than 5mm SPC click while delivering a permanently bonded Class 33/34 floor. ⭐ UK Primary Spec
The default UK residential and light commercial specification. A rigid limestone-PVC core delivers waterproof performance and ≤0.10% dimensional stability across UK temperature cycling. Click installation, no adhesive, with a 1mm IXPE pad pre-attached. CE marked, Bfl-s1, UFH compatible. NHS · Housing Association · Class 34
Permanent adhesive bond — zero movement under rolling loads. The specification for healthcare wards, housing association common corridors, and commercial retail where floating joint noise is not acceptable. Fast Renovation · No Adhesive
Friction-backed installation — no adhesive, no click. The specification for UK office renovation in occupied buildings where adhesive cure time and floating-floor acoustics both apply. Loose lay over existing subfloor allows same-day handover in phased office programmes, and is raised-access-floor compatible.
PRS · HMO · Acoustic Comfort
A flexible core — softer and warmer underfoot than rigid SPC. The preferred specification for UK private rented sector (PRS) and HMO residential where tenant comfort and acoustic performance between floors rank above maximum commercial durability. Floating installation, with higher impact-sound absorption than rigid SPC for residential floor assemblies. Pairs well with underfloor heating.

Ground-level and basement conversions in pre-1920 UK housing carry persistent subfloor moisture rising through concrete and screed. SPC rigid core is 100% waterproof — the limestone-PVC composite does not absorb moisture at any layer, and the pre-attached 1mm IXPE pad creates a moisture and thermal break between subfloor and plank.
UK rooms with underfloor heating cycle daily between ambient and heated temperatures, and seasonal swing adds to the range. SPC must hold dimensional stability across it — the EN ISO 23999 certified figure is ≤0.10%, so across a 1,000mm plank maximum movement is about 1mm, keeping joints tight without gapping or buckling. Approved Document B and the equivalent Scottish and Northern Irish standards tightened fire requirements for multi-storey residential and commercial buildings after 2017. EN 13501-1 Bfl-s1 is the minimum classification for commercial flooring and multi-storey residential common areas, and building control increasingly expects third-party certificates rather than self-declared claims. UK liability law places slip and trip responsibility on the building owner and facilities manager. UK practice uses the pendulum test (PTV, BS 7976) alongside the DIN 51130 R-rating; R10 is typical for commercial wet areas. A floor without independent slip certification exposes the owner to injury liability that manufacturer datasheets alone cannot defend.
