PVC-free resilient flooring · PP core

Non-PVC Flooring with a Polypropylene (PP) Core

Non-PVC flooring is a resilient floor whose core is made from a polymer other than polyvinyl chloride. Ours is built on a polypropylene (PP) core, made at our Jiaxing factory for importers, distributors and project buyers whose specification or customers ask for a floor without PVC. Construction, test reports and certificates are confirmed for the SKU you are quoting.

PP Flooring Against SPC: What Changes When the PVC Comes Out

Taking PVC out of the core changes the chemistry of the floor. It does not carry over the test results of a PVC floor. Fire, emissions, dimensional stability and customs classification all have to be documented for the PP build itself.

General material facts, and how Ecoflors documents each point. SPC figures are for our SPC builds and do not apply to PP flooring.
What you are comparingSPC (PVC-based)PP flooring (non-PVC)
Core polymerPolyvinyl chloride with mineral fillerPolypropylene-based. Filler and additives are stated on the SKU datasheet
Chlorine in the polymerYes. Chlorine makes up more than half of the PVC polymer by massNone in polypropylene. Whether the whole build is halogen-free, including coatings, films and any flame retardant, is confirmed per SKU
Reaction to fireBfl-s1 to EN 13501-1:2018, tested on a 4.0 mm / 0.3 mm SPC specimenTested on the PP build. The SPC result does not transfer to it
Dimensional stability≤0.12 % to ISO 23999:2021, SPC datasheet valueFrom the PP datasheet. PP moves more with temperature than PVC as a raw polymer, so expansion gaps and room-size limits follow the PP installation instruction

Customs classificationDeclared as a PVC floor coveringNot a PVC product, so the PVC subheading does not describe it. Your customs broker confirms the code

Construction

Inside a PP Non-PVC Floor

A PP floor keeps the layered build of a rigid resilient floor: a clear surface over a printed decor, on a rigid core, with a backing. What makes it non-PVC is what each layer is made of. A PVC-free core under a PVC wear layer or decor film is not a PVC-free floor, so we declare every layer on the datasheet of the SKU you order.

Ecoflors PP flooring. Where the image and the written datasheet differ, the datasheet governs.
  1. Surface coating

UV-cured coat over the wear layer.

  2. Wear layer

Clear layer over the print. Thickness and material per SKU.

  3. Printed decor

Wood or stone look. Film material per SKU.

  4. PP rigid core

    Polypropylene-based core, no PVC.

  5. Backing

Balancing layer or attached underlay, if the SKU has one.

Thickness, wear layer, formats, click system and packing are stated on the PP datasheet for each SKU. We don’t publish a range-wide specification table for PP on this page: send the build your range or tender names and we reply with the datasheet for it.

When a Non-PVC Floor Is the Right Call

  • The specification excludes PVC or halogenated materialsPP flooring

Typical wording: “PVC-free”, “halogen-free”, “no chlorinated polymers”

    What to check

Check the whole build, not only the core: wear layer, decor film, coating and any flame retardant. Ask for a material declaration for the exact SKU and keep it with the submittal.

  • The tender names an ecolabel or an emissions schemePer SKU

Examples: Blue Angel DE-UZ 120, AgBB / EN 16516, FloorScore

    What to check

An ecolabel or emissions certificate belongs to a named product and holder. Ask for the certificate number and check it against the scheme’s public listing. For Germany, our AgBB and VOC guide explains how the schemes differ.

  • The project needs a fire classificationPer SKU

Examples: EN 13501-1 in Europe, ASTM E648 in the US

    What to check

Removing chlorine removes the source of hydrogen chloride in fire gases, but it does not give a floor a fire class. The class comes from a test of the PP build. Send the class and standard and we say what we hold for that SKU.

  • PVC is acceptable and price per square metre decidesCompare SPC

    Alternative: SPC rigid core click

    What to check

If the specification does not exclude PVC, compare against our SPC flooring, which has published datasheets by thickness and format. Ask for both in the same quotation.

Documentation

Documents for a PVC-Free Specification

These are the documents buyers most often ask for when a specification excludes PVC. Each one covers a named product, construction and market, so we match them to the SKU you are quoting and tell you which we hold and which we don’t. Certificates we currently hold are on our certifications page.

Why We Don’t Print a Badge Strip

A certificate or report covers the product that was tested or listed. It does not cover a whole range, and a result for our SPC or LVT does not cover a PP floor. Tell us the scheme and standard your specification names and we answer for the SKU you are quoting.

OEM & Private Label

PP flooring can ship under your brand, with cartons and labels printed to your artwork. Certificates and test reports stay in the name of the holder that obtained them; if your market needs documents in your own company name, tell us at enquiry so we can say what is possible for that scheme. The OEM and private-label programme covers artwork, approvals and the first-order sequence.

Buyer questions

Non-PVC Flooring FAQs

What is non-PVC flooring made of?

Non-PVC flooring replaces the polyvinyl chloride in a resilient floor with another material. Ecoflors non-PVC flooring uses a polypropylene (PP) core. The material of each layer, including the wear layer, decor film and backing, is stated on the datasheet for the SKU.

Is PP flooring the same as SPC?

No. Both are rigid resilient floors with a similar layered build, but SPC has a PVC-based core and PP flooring has a polypropylene-based core. Test results for SPC, such as fire class and dimensional stability, do not apply to PP flooring. Each has its own datasheet.

Is PP flooring phthalate-free and halogen-free?

Polypropylene contains no chlorine and is not plasticised with phthalates. Whether a finished floor is halogen-free and phthalate-free depends on every layer and additive in it, so we confirm it per SKU with a material declaration or test report. Ask for it in writing for the SKU you order.

Is a PVC-free floor safer in a fire?

Without chlorine in the polymer, a PP floor has no source of hydrogen chloride in its fire gases. That is not a fire class. How a floor reacts to fire is set by a test of the finished build, for example to EN 13501-1. If your project needs a class, send the standard and we say what we hold for that SKU.

Does your PP flooring carry Blue Angel, FloorScore or GREENGUARD?

Certificates are matched to the SKU you are quoting. Tell us which scheme your specification or customers name and we reply with the certificate for that product, or tell you plainly that we don’t hold it. Check any certificate you receive against the scheme’s public listing.

Which HS code applies to PP flooring?

PP flooring is a plastic floor covering but not a PVC one, so the PVC subheading used for SPC and vinyl flooring does not describe it. The final code, duty rate and documents depend on the product and destination. Confirm them with your customs broker before shipment; see our HS code guide for how vinyl flooring is classified.

What is the minimum order and lead time?

800 m² per existing design or colour, and from 2,200 m² for a custom decor. Production lead time is generally 35–40 days and is reconfirmed when the order is placed. See the ordering terms.

Can I sell PP flooring under my own brand?

Yes. Cartons and labels can be printed to your artwork. Certificates stay in the name of their holder, so tell us at enquiry if your market needs documents in your company name.
