Loose lay LVT · 4.0 mm

4mm Loose Lay Vinyl Flooring (LVT)

4mm Loose Lay LVT is a 4.0 mm flexible vinyl plank or tile with a fibreglass-reinforced LVT layer and an anti-skid backing. It has no click joint: pieces are laid loose, edge to edge. We make it with a 0.55 mm (22 mil) or 0.70 mm (28 mil) wear layer, in three planks and three tiles, up to a 914 × 914 mm (36 in) square.

4mm Loose Lay LVT Specifications & Options

We hold twelve datasheets for this build: six formats, each with a 0.55 mm and a 0.70 mm wear layer. The two sets differ only in the wear layer. Test values and packing figures are the same.

4 mm Loose Lay or 4 mm Click: Datasheet to Datasheet

Same thickness, same test methods, and nearly the same floor per container. What separates the two builds is how the floor stays down, the wear layer and the formats. Dimensional stability, curling, indentation and the castor chair result are declared at the same values on both.

Both columns from the Ecoflors TDS, version 2026.09.23-R01: twelve 4.0 mm loose lay sheets and five 4.0 mm click sheets.

When 4 mm Loose Lay Is the Right Call

  • Your range or tender names loose lay4 mm

Wear layer: 0.55 or 0.70 mm, as the specification names

    What to check

Both wear layers run in all six formats with identical packing, so a range of planks and tiles can be planned in one thickness. Confirm with your installer whether the project needs any perimeter fixing.

  • You want a heavier wear layer at 4 mmLoose lay

Click at 4 mm: 0.30 mm only

    What to check

Our 4 mm click build carries 0.30 mm. The loose lay build carries 0.55 or 0.70 mm at the same thickness and within 1% of the same container range. If you need a click joint and a heavier layer, look at 4.5mm Click LVT.

  • The design calls for large square tiles457 or 914 mm

    Formats: 18 × 18 in and 36 × 36 in

    What to check

Neither square is on a click datasheet. The 914 mm tile ships three to a carton, 41 cartons stacked on a 940 × 940 mm pallet. If the pattern scale matters, ask for a full tile as the sample rather than a cut piece.

  • The project needs a declared classOther build

Status: no class declared at 4 mm loose lay

    What to check

A heavier wear layer is not a class. For areas with daily trolley traffic, look at the glue-down Dryback range, or send us the class and we’ll say which build we can document to it.

Construction

Inside the 4 mm Loose Lay Board

A loose-laid floor has no joint and no adhesive holding each piece flat. The fibreglass in the LVT layer carries dimensional stability, and the anti-skid backing sits on the substrate.

Exploded diagram of a loose lay vinyl plank with seven numbered layers: UV coating, wear layer, decor film, LVT middle layer, fibreglass layer, LVT bottom layer and LVT anti-slip layer
Exploded view of the loose lay layer order. Where the drawing and the written specification differ, the written specification governs.
  1. UV coating

    UV-cured matte coat, 4–6 GU.

  2. Wear layer

0.55 mm or 0.70 mm of clear layer over the print.

  3. Décor film

Printed wood or stone design, embossed in register when EIR is ordered.

  4. LVT layer with fibreglass

Dimensional stability ≤0.12% to ISO 23999:2021. Dual fibreglass on request.

  5. Anti-skid backing

The underside in contact with the substrate. No IXPE or EVA is laminated to it.

The drawing splits layer 4 into an LVT middle layer, the fibreglass layer and an LVT bottom layer, so it shows seven numbers against five datasheet items. Substrate preparation and any perimeter fixing depend on the room and the traffic; ask for the installation instruction for your project before the specification is final.

Compliance by Market

Fire, slip and emissions results are not published here as range-wide ratings. A report covers the construction, thickness and wear layer that was tested, so we match documents to the SKU you are quoting and the market it ships to. Tell us the standard your specification names and we’ll say what we hold for that build and what we don’t. Current certificates are on our certifications page.

Formats and loading

Formats, Packing & Container Loading

Six formats, all cut to whole-inch sizes, each in either wear layer. Packing is the same for 0.55 mm and 0.70 mm. Pallets stack up to three high, and weight, not space, sets the container quantity in every format.

Loaded cargo gross weight runs from 23,726 kg (228.6 × 1524 mm) to 24,739 kg (304.8 × 609.6 mm). Road limits at some destinations, including many North American inland routes, are lower. We recalculate for your port and inland route before quoting a container quantity. Plank pallets and square-tile pallets have different footprints, so a mixed load is worked out from its actual split.

EIR registers the emboss to the print and is ordered per decor. Matching one decor across a plank and a tile needs a physical sample before production. See embossed-in-register vinyl.

Buyer questions

4mm Loose Lay LVT FAQs

Does 4mm loose lay need adhesive?

The datasheet installation method is loose lay: no click joint and no full-spread adhesive bed. Whether a project needs a perimeter or grid fix depends on room size, traffic, sunlight and the substrate. Ask for the installation instruction for your conditions before the specification goes to the installer.

Is 4mm Loose Lay LVT rated for commercial areas?

Neither 4 mm loose lay datasheet declares a utilisation class, with the 0.55 mm or the 0.70 mm wear layer. Send the class, the traffic and the standard your specification names, and we’ll say whether this build fits or which one does. A class on a submittal has to be backed by a report for the exact SKU.

0.55 mm or 0.70 mm wear layer?

The two builds differ only in the wear layer, 22 mil against 28 mil. Test values, formats and packing are identical, so the 0.70 mm build takes no extra container space. Choose on what your range or tender names; the price difference is shown per format in the quotation.

What does dual fibreglass change?

It adds a second fibreglass reinforcement and is made on request. The datasheet values on this page are for the standard build, so the quotation for a dual-fibreglass SKU states its weight, packing and which reports cover it.

Can planks and square tiles go in the same container?

Yes. Each format, wear layer and colour is its own SKU and meets its own minimum under the ordering terms. Plank pallets run from 970 × 1240 to 970 × 1550 mm while the square tiles sit on 940 × 940 or 950 × 950 mm pallets, and every format reaches the weight limit first, so the load is calculated from your split rather than read off one row of the packing table.

Is loose lay made in other thicknesses?

Yes. 5mm Loose Lay LVT has its own page and datasheet. Other thicknesses are quoted on request, each with its own datasheet before it goes on your price list. The full range starts from the loose lay LVT overview.
