7mm SPC Click
Flooring Manufacturer
6mm Rigid Core + 1mm IXPE
The EU specifies 7mm SPC not because it is thicker than 5mm — but because Class 42/43 utilisation requires the sustained point-load resistance that only a 6mm core delivers under the conditions of chain retail, open-plan office, and social housing common areas. Furthermore, 7mm’s greater mass provides marginally better acoustic contribution (△IIC 22–23) than 5mm or 6mm — relevant for multi-storey EU residential projects where sound transmission between floors is regulated by national building codes.
The Minimum for Heavy
Commercial Utilisation.
The Numbers Behind EU Heavy Commercial Performance.
The six parameters below are the same across 5mm, 6mm, 7mm, and 8mm SPC — because they are determined by the compound, not the thickness. What is different about 7mm is the utilisation class it achieves. Specifically, the 6mm core is the minimum required to pass Class 42/43 under EN 685 sustained load testing — and consequently, every parameter below is explained in the context of what it means for a Dutch Woningcorporaties project, a German chain retail fit-out, or a UK Class 42 commercial tender.
| Parameter | Value | Standard & EU Heavy Commercial Context |
|---|---|---|
| Total Thickness | 7mm (6+1) | 6mm SPC rigid core + 1mm IXPE pre-attached. No separate underlay required. |
| Core Density | 1.95–2.05 g/cm³ | Limestone-PVC composite — same compound as 5mm, 6mm, and 8mm. Stability and peel resistance are compound-determined, not thickness-determined. |
| EN 685 Utilisation | Class 42/43 | The defining advantage of 7mm over 5mm and 6mm. Class 42 for NL Woningcorporaties and DE commercial. Class 43 with 0.7mm wear layer for education and healthcare. |
| Dimensional Stability | ≤ 0.10% | EN ISO 23999 · ASTM F2199. Referenced directly by NL DIBt and DE AgBB test submissions — satisfies both without additional testing. |
| Impact Sound | △IIC 22–23 dB | ASTM E2179 — marginally higher than 5mm (△IIC 21) due to greater plank mass. Contributes to NL Bouwbesluit 2012 acoustic compliance in multi-storey residential. |
| Subfloor Tolerance | ≤ 3mm / 2m | Maximum subfloor deviation before surface telegraphing. Broader tolerance than 5mm (≤2mm) and 6mm (2–3mm) — 7mm is the most subfloor-tolerant standard click SPC. |
| Peel Resistance | ≥ 50N / 50mm | ISO 24345:2006 — co-extrusion bond. Identical to 5mm and 6mm. Holds across full Class 42/43 loading spectrum. |
| Residual Indentation | avg. 0.05mm | ISO 24343-1 — same as 5mm and 6mm. 6mm core mass distributes heavy commercial point loads over a wider area. |
| Fire Rating | Bfl-S1 | EN 13501-1 · CE EN 14041. Mandatory NL / DE / UK commercial. Standard specification — no supplementary testing required for EU tenders. |
| Slip Resistance | R10 / DS | DIN 51130 · EN 13893. Dual-certified for commercial wet and dry zone applications. |
| Wear Layer Options | 0.3 / 0.55 / 0.7mm | 0.3mm for EU residential. 0.55mm for Class 42/43 EU commercial (NL/DE standard). 0.7mm for Class 43 education and healthcare. |
| Click System | Uniclic / Välinge 5G | Both available. Uniclic for standard commercial installation. Välinge 5G for faster fit-out where room turnover is time-critical. |
| GREENGUARD Gold | TVOC ≤ 0.22 mg/m³ | UL 2818. Satisfies DE AgBB indoor air quality requirement for public commercial buildings. LEED v4 IEQ credit 4.3. |
| FloorScore | SCS-FS-05154 | CDPH Section 01350. Required for BREEAM-certified EU commercial projects and LEED-certified buildings. |
| Weight / m² | ~10–11 kg | 1–2 kg/m² heavier than 6mm. A 20ft container carries approximately 5–8% fewer sqm than 6mm — factor into logistics cost per m². |
| FOB Price Range | US$7.20–8.00/m² | 0.3mm from $7.20 · 0.55mm from $7.60 · 0.7mm from $8.00 — FOB Ningbo or Shanghai. MOQ 800 sqm/SKU. |
Residential and light commercial on 7mm core. Correct specification when the project requires 7mm for its subfloor bridging capacity (≤3mm/2m tolerance) but foot traffic is residential or light commercial. The 7mm core’s Class 42/43 capability is not accessed at 0.3mm wear layer — but the subfloor bridging advantage is fully available regardless of wear layer.
The EU heavy commercial standard — the combination that unlocks Class 42/43 utilisation on the 7mm core. Specified in NL Woningcorporaties common area tenders, DE chain retail fit-outs, and UK Class 42 commercial renovation projects. Furthermore, 0.55mm delivers a 20+ year commercial lifecycle under heavy foot traffic — the specification that EU facility managers rely on for budget cycle planning.
Maximum Class 43 performance on 7mm core. Required for DE public education (DIN 18032), healthcare renovation, and UK school and university projects where the highest click SPC utilisation class is specified. Specifically, 0.7mm on 7mm core delivers 25+ year commercial lifecycle under education and healthcare traffic — matching the long replacement cycle that public sector facilities management requires.
12 Decors on 7mm SPC. All Class 42/43 Ready.
Every colour below is produced on 7mm SPC rigid core and is available across 5mm, 6mm, and 8mm from the same décor film batch. Consequently, a project specifying 7mm SPC in heavy commercial common areas and 5mm SPC in residential zones can use the same colour code throughout — produced from the same print run, appearing identical under equivalent lighting.
NL Social Housing · Class 42
Dutch Woningcorporaties manage approximately 2.4 million social housing units — the largest social housing sector in Europe relative to population. Common areas (stairwells, lobbies, corridors) in these buildings are subject to Class 42 minimum specification by Woningcorporaties procurement frameworks. Consequently, 7mm SPC with 0.55mm wear layer is the single highest-volume specification in the NL flooring market for this application. Furthermore, Bouwbesluit 2012 mandates Bfl-S1 for all common areas — a standard that Ecoflors 7mm SPC carries without supplementary testing.
EU Chain Retail · Class 42/43
German and Dutch chain retail fit-outs — supermarkets, fashion retail, electronics chains — specify 7mm SPC as the default floor covering because Class 42/43 is required by their procurement frameworks and their facilities management teams need a floor that survives 15+ years of commercial use before replacement. Specifically, German retail chains specify 0.55mm wear layer with 7mm core for high-traffic sales floors, and 0.7mm with 7mm for service and logistics areas within the same store. The same EIR colour code runs through both zones for visual continuity.

Is 7mm the Right Thickness for Your Project?
7mm SPC is the correct specification when EN 685 Class 42/43 utilisation is required — not when you simply want a thicker floor. If your project is residential or light commercial (Class 31/33), 5mm or 6mm SPC delivers identical stability at lower cost. Specifically, 7mm is the minimum click SPC thickness that satisfies NL Woningcorporaties, DE commercial, and UK Class 42 tender requirements. If your project requires Class 44, no click SPC achieves it — Dryback LVT with permanent bonding is the correct answer.
Correct for residential and light commercial. Same ≤0.10% stability as 7mm. Cannot reach Class 42/43 regardless of wear layer. Best logistics cost per container.
Correct when subfloor deviation is 2–3mm/2m and screed preparation is not in scope. Bridges minor irregularities. Same Class 31/33 ceiling as 5mm — does not reach Class 42/43.
The EU heavy commercial standard. Class 42/43 utilisation. NL Woningcorporaties and DE commercial default. Minimum click SPC that satisfies Class 42 tender requirements across the EU.
Maximum click SPC. Class 43. Highest point-load resistance and acoustic contribution in the click SPC range. ME hospitality, large-format retail, high-footfall commercial.
