SPC Flooring Technical Specifications —
Correct Standards, Correct Values,
How to Verify Each One

Every SPC flooring data sheet looks similar. The numbers differ. Most of those differences cannot be verified — because the wrong test standard is cited, the wrong unit is used, or the value has no corresponding third-party test report behind it. This page gives you the correct ISO standard for each parameter, the correct value range, and exactly how to verify it independently.

Ecoflors Technical Reference April 2026 Updated: All ISO standard references verified
The problem with most SPC technical spec pages

The original version of this page cited EN 434 for dimensional stability (a flexible PVC standard, not applicable to rigid SPC), EN 431 for peel resistance (not a peel resistance standard), and 2,050 kg/m³ for core density (the wrong unit — ISO 1183 reports in g/cm³, not kg/m³). These are not unusual errors. They appear on hundreds of SPC supplier pages. We corrected ours. The table below uses the correct standards and verifiable values only.

The Complete SPC Parameter Reference — Correct Standards and Values

The table below covers every performance parameter relevant to commercial SPC specification. For each parameter: the correct test standard, the correct value range for commercial-grade SPC, how to verify it, and why it matters to procurement. Parameters marked with a third-party lab requirement cannot be self-declared — they require an independent test report.

Parameter Correct Standard Ecoflors Value How to Verify Why It Matters
Core Density ISO 1183 1.95–2.05 g/cm³ Request ISO 1183 report in g/cm³ from SGS/Intertek/TÜV. Reject reports in kg/m³ — cannot cross-reference. Determines indentation resistance, click joint durability, dimensional stability under load.
Dimensional Stability EN ISO 23999 ≤0.10% Request EN ISO 23999 report. Read actual measured value — not data sheet claim. ≤0.05% or ≤0.08% are unrecognised thresholds. Controls joint gap formation over thermal cycles. Critical for UFH and herringbone layouts.
Wear Layer Thickness Physical cross-section 0.3 / 0.5 / 0.55 / 0.7mm Pre-shipment cross-section measurement by SGS/Intertek/QIMA. ±0.02mm acceptable variance. Data sheet alone is unverified. Determines EN 685 utilisation class and commercial service life. Most frequently misrepresented parameter.
Peel Resistance ISO 24345 ≥50N/50mm Request ISO 24345 report from named third-party lab. EN 431 is not a peel resistance standard — reject reports citing EN 431. Measures wear layer bond strength. Low peel resistance = delamination risk under commercial cleaning chemicals.
Click-Lock Tensile Strength ISO 24334 ≥1,200N Request ISO 24334 report. Internal laser QC (click tolerance ±0.1mm) is a production check — it does not substitute for ISO 24334 tensile testing. Joint separation resistance under rolling loads and thermal cycling. Critical for herringbone and chevron layouts.
Residual Indentation ISO 24343-1 ≤0.05mm Request ISO 24343-1 report. Average across minimum 5 test points. Frequently absent from supplier documentation — its absence is informative. Permanent surface denting under furniture, office chair castors, and retail shelving loads.
Fire Classification EN 13501-1 Bfl-s1 Bfl-s1 must appear in the CE Declaration of Performance with Notified Body number. Standalone Bfl-s1 report without CE DoP has no legal standing for building inspection. Mandatory for commercial public areas and escape routes in EU/UK. Corresponds to old DIN 4102 B1.
VOC Emissions (US/AU/Global) CDPH Section 01350 FloorScore® SCS-FS-05154 Search certificate number at scscertified.com. Confirm product listed matches the specific product being purchased — not just company name. Required for LEED v4 IEQ credit, BREEAM Hea 02, and school/healthcare specifications globally.
VOC Emissions (DE/EU) AgBB / Eurofins IAC Gold Eurofins IAC Gold Certificate from Eurofins with IAC Gold designation. Required for German schools, Kindergärten, hospitals, and Leistungsverzeichnis submissions. German AgBB scheme — mandatory for educational and healthcare projects. Not substitutable with FloorScore for DE market.
VOC Emissions (schools/healthcare global) UL 2818 GREENGUARD Gold · 135464-420 Verify at ul.com. Product-specific — a company GREENGUARD certificate does not mean all products are certified. Required for WELL Building Standard, US school specifications, and international healthcare procurement.
EN 685 Utilisation Class EN 685 + EN 13329 Class 31–44 (wear layer dependent) EN 685 class must appear in the CE DoP. The class is determined by wear layer thickness + installation method — not stated by factory alone. The definitive commercial specification parameter. Class 33/42 for office/retail; Class 43 heavy commercial; Class 44 NHS/airport (Dryback only).
Slip Resistance (commercial) EN 13893 (DS value) DS ≥0.30 EN 13893 test report from third-party lab. R10/R11 DIN 51130 ratings are for industrial environments — different standard, different application. Wet slip resistance for commercial bathrooms, kitchens, and healthcare areas. DS ≥0.30 satisfies EU commercial wet slip requirements.
From the factory floor — why we list the wrong standards we used to cite

The original version of this page cited EN 434, EN 431, and kg/m³ density — the same errors that appear on most Chinese SPC supplier pages. These errors originate because data sheets are often produced by commercial teams copying from other data sheets, not from the laboratory team who ran the tests. The lab report is in g/cm³ and cites ISO 1183. The data sheet says kg/m³ and cites nothing. The gap between the test report and the data sheet is where most SPC quality misrepresentation lives. Our current data sheets are now aligned with the test reports — not with industry convention.

The Standards That Are Frequently Cited Incorrectly

The errors below appear on supplier data sheets regularly. Knowing them protects procurement decisions — a data sheet citing the wrong standard cannot be verified against any existing test document.

Parameter What Suppliers Cite Correct Standard Why the Wrong Standard Is Wrong
Core density ≥2,000 kg/m³ 1.95–2.05 g/cm³ · ISO 1183 ISO 1183 reports in g/cm³. Quoting kg/m³ makes the figure impossible to cross-reference with any ISO 1183 test document.
Dimensional stability EN 434 · ≤0.08% ≤0.10% · EN ISO 23999 EN 434 is for flexible PVC floor coverings at 80°C/6h — not applicable to rigid SPC. EN ISO 23999 is the correct standard. ≤0.08% is not a recognised threshold in either standard.
Peel resistance EN 431 · ≥95N/50mm ≥50N/50mm · ISO 24345 EN 431 covers adhesive bond strength for bonded floor coverings — it is not a wear layer peel resistance standard. ≥95N/50mm has no corresponding ISO 24345 basis.
Dimensional stability ≤0.05% ≤0.10% · EN ISO 23999 ≤0.05% is not a recognised EN ISO 23999 reporting threshold. No third-party test document will show this value — it is a marketing claim without test basis.
VOC (SPC core) EN 717-1 · E0 FloorScore / GREENGUARD Gold / AgBB EN 717-1 is the formaldehyde emission standard for wood-based panels. SPC has no wood content — formaldehyde is not the primary VOC concern. FloorScore and AgBB test for the full range of VOCs relevant to PVC composites.

Three Levels of Verification — What to Accept and What to Reject

Not all evidence of performance is equal. The three tiers below determine how much weight to give each type of documentation in a procurement decision. A data sheet without a corresponding third-party test report is useful only as a starting point — it tells you what the factory claims, not what an independent laboratory measured.

Level 1 — Accept
Third-party test report from named laboratory
SGS, Intertek, TÜV, Bureau Veritas, or Eurofins. Report shows the laboratory name, date, sample batch reference, test standard, and measured value. This is the only form of technical documentation that constitutes independent verification. Cross-reference the laboratory name against the issuing body’s client portal where possible.
Level 2 — Verify further
Certification with verifiable certificate number
FloorScore (searchable at scscertified.com), GREENGUARD Gold (searchable at ul.com), CE DoP with Notified Body number (verifiable via EU NANDO database). Certificate must be product-specific — verify the specific product listed matches what is being purchased, not just the company name.
Level 3 — Insufficient alone
Data sheet or self-declared specification
Factory data sheet, product specification document, or any document produced by the supplier’s commercial team without a corresponding third-party test report reference. Useful for initial screening only. Any value on a data sheet that cannot be cross-referenced to a named third-party test report is unverifiable.

Certificate Verification — Where to Check Each One

FloorScore® — SCS Global Services
SCS-FS-05154
Search at scscertified.com by company name or certificate number. Verify the specific product listed matches the product being purchased — company-level certificate ≠ product certificate. Ecoflors certificate SCS-FS-05154 is publicly searchable today.
GREENGUARD Gold — UL
135464-420
Search at ul.com/resources/greenguard-certified-products. Product-specific — confirm the exact product configuration (thickness, wear layer) matches the certificate entry, not just the brand name.
CE Declaration of Performance — EN 14041
Notified Body number required
The CE DoP must contain the Notified Body number (e.g. 0086 for BM Trada UK). Verify the Notified Body is accredited via the EU NANDO database at ec.europa.eu/growth/tools-databases/nando. A «CE marked» claim without a DoP and Notified Body number is not CE certification.
Eurofins IAC Gold — AgBB (Germany/EU)
Issued by Eurofins
Certificate issued directly by Eurofins. Required for German Leistungsverzeichnis submissions in schools, Kindergärten, hospitals, and increasingly offices. Not substitutable with FloorScore for the German market — different scheme, different VOC parameter set.

Not on request — standard with every sample.

Technical specification questions from procurement managers
What is the correct core density for commercial SPC flooring?
1.95–2.05 g/cm³, tested to ISO 1183. The unit is g/cm³ — not kg/m³. Many data sheets quote «2,000 kg/m³», which is mathematically equivalent but cannot be cross-referenced with any ISO 1183 test report (which always reports in g/cm³). Request the ISO 1183 test report from a named third-party laboratory. Below 1.85 g/cm³ indicates a reduced calcium ratio or recycled PVC content.
What is the correct dimensional stability standard for SPC flooring?
EN ISO 23999 — not EN 434. EN 434 is designed for flexible PVC floor coverings and uses test conditions (80°C for 6 hours) not appropriate for rigid-core SPC. The correct certified value is ≤0.10%. Values quoted as ≤0.05% or ≤0.08% do not correspond to any recognised EN ISO 23999 threshold. Always request the actual test report and read the measured value, not the data sheet claim.
What is the correct peel resistance standard for SPC flooring?
ISO 24345, with a minimum value of ≥50N/50mm. EN 431 is not a peel resistance standard — it covers adhesive bond strength for bonded floor coverings and is not applicable to the wear layer bond in SPC. Any supplier citing EN 431 for peel resistance is referencing an incorrect standard.
What click-lock strength should commercial SPC have?
≥1,200N tensile strength, tested to ISO 24334. Internal laser QC measurements of click profile tolerance (±0.1mm) are a production process check that measure dimensional accuracy of the profile — they do not measure the tensile force required to separate two engaged planks. Both measurements are relevant, but ISO 24334 is the performance standard for procurement specification.
